A working branderij
The museum is housed in a former moutwijn distillery. In its branderij, De Gekroonde Brandersketel, a team distils Old Schiedam moutwijnjenever by the "Oud-Hollandsche" method, with large mash tubs, coolers and copper stills, following a recipe the museum dates to 1700, and ages it in cask for at least a year. The genever technical file names it the national genever museum, founded in 1996.
