What the company says
Appleton Estate says it has made rum in Jamaica's Nassau Valley "since 1749" and calls itself Jamaica's oldest continuously operating distillery. It ferments locally sourced molasses with its own cultured yeast and estate spring water, blends copper pot-still and column-still distillates, and ages them in ex-bourbon American oak.
Joy Spence was appointed Master Blender in 1997; the company describes her as the first woman to hold that title in the spirits industry. Both claims come from the brand.
