History
Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill took the tack of Talisker House on Skye in 1825, cleared tenants from their land and in 1830 opened a distillery at Carbost, using the cleared people as workers. By 1848 the bank controlled it. Roderick Kemp and Alexander Allan bought it in 1880 and built a pier; after 1916 a group of blenders including DCL took control, and it has stayed with the companies that became Diageo. A fire stopped production from 1960 to 1962. ScotchWhisky.com reports that triple distillation ended in 1928.
