Plymouth Gin
Plymouth Gin was listed as an EU geographical indication in 2008 but lost that status in 2016, after no technical file was submitted. The name is now a registered trade mark.

Claims that the distillery building was a friary are local tradition; the official listing finds no evidence.
From geographical indication to trade mark
Regulation (EC) No 110/2008 listed Plymouth Gin among the geographical indications for juniper-flavoured spirit drinks. Member States then had until 20 February 2015 to submit a technical file for every established GI; the Commission received none for 87 of 330, and Regulation (EU) 2016/1067 removed them. Plymouth Gin is absent from the replacement list. Difford's Guide reports that the brand owner, Pernod Ricard, said in November 2014: "We have decided to withdraw our support of the Protected Geographic Indication for Plymouth Gin." The name remains a registered trade mark.
