Sloe gin
In EU law, sloe gin is a liqueur made by macerating sloes in gin, bottled at 25 % or more. It is not a gin in the legal sense.
Method
Maceration of sloes in gin, with possible addition of sloe juice; only natural flavourings.
Definition
Regulation (EU) 2019/787 defines sloe gin as "a liqueur produced by maceration of sloes in gin with the possible addition of sloe juice", with at least 25 % alcohol. Only natural flavouring substances and preparations may be used. A separate category, sloe-aromatised spirit drink or pacharán, covers sloes macerated in agricultural alcohol with anise; pacharán is reserved as a legal name for Spain.
